DETROIT – Thanks to the Tigers 7-3 victory in Game 4, this series is guaranteed to return to Fenway Park on Saturday night. As each game passes (each has played close with the exception of last night) it becomes clearer just how evenly matched these two teams are and how one mistake, or one bad inning, is likely to sway the result. While much has been made of Jim Leylands decision to demote Austin Jackson from the lead off spot - Jackson had two hits and a walk hitting eighth in Game 4 - the fact that Red Sox starter Jake Peavy lost the strike zone in the second inning, when the Tigers scored five runs to ice the game early, was the biggest factor of the night. As the curtain closes on the Comerica Park portion of this series, we revert back to the Game 1 pitching matchup. Game 5 Preview PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox: LHP Jon Lester (Regular season: 12-5, 4.17, 1.147 WHIP; Playoffs: 0-0, 1.59, 0.882 WHIP in 5.2IP) 2013 Regular Season vs. Detroit: 2 GS – 2-0, 12.2IP, 4.26, 1.579 WHIP. Game 1 vs. Detroit: L, 6.1 IP, 1 ER (1.42 ERA,) 6 H, 1 BB, 4K, 1.105 WHIP. Jhonny Peralta, who had three hits in Game 1 and was the only Tiger with a multi-hit game, went 2-3 off Lester with a double and an RBI single. That single, in the sixth inning, scored Miguel Cabrera with the only run of the game in Detroits 1-0 win. Possible Argument: Despite the fact his counterpart Anibal Sanchez didnt allow a hit over six innings in Game 1, Lester was essentially as good as his mound opponent. Lester worked out of a two out, first inning jam stranding runners at the corners following two singles. A one out single in the third was erased on a double play and, thanks to some strong defensive play, he worked out of a fifth inning jam started by a lead off double. Sure, Lester got burned in the sixth but he was generally efficient in Game 1 and theres no reason to believe he cant be Sanchezs match, or better, in Game 5. Tigers: RHP Anibal Sanchez (Regular season: 14-9, 3.67, 1.308 WHIP; Playoffs: 0-0, 4.50, 1.333 WHIP in 6IP) Didnt face Boston in the 2013 regular season. Game 1 vs. Boston: 6 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 6 BB, 12 K, 1.000 WHIP. Clearly nobody hit Sanchez well in Game 1 because nobody hit him at all. Dustin Pedroia did draw two of Sanchezs six walks. Multiple-time Sanchez strikeout victims included: Jacoby Ellsbury, Shane Victorino, David Ortiz, Mike Napoli, Daniel Nava, and Stephen Drew. It would have been quicker to jot down who didnt strikeout at least twice versus Sanchez. Interesting Note: The Tigers pitching staff has combined for at least 10 strikeouts in each game of this series. LINEUP CONSIDERATIONS: Its hard to imagine Leyland going away from what worked in Game 4 so expect to see Torii Hunter back in the lead off spot, Miguel Cabrera batting second, Prince Fielder hitting third and Austin Jackson much further down in the order. “I was laying on my couch at home (Tuesday) night watching the Dodgers and the Cardinals, and I kept thinking, because I didnt disagree with anybody saying we needed something,” said Leyland of his lineup tinkering. “I felt like fans, members of the media, myself, probably the players, if the truth be known, I think something had to be done. “I dont want to say this had anything to do with it. Jackson went 2-2 with two walks in the eight-hole in Game 4. Entering the game, hed been 3-33 (.091) with 18 strikeouts in the postseason. Red Sox manager John Farrell is getting next to no production from the left side of his infield. Shortstop Stephen Drew is 3-28 (.107) in the postseason. Third baseman Will Middlebrooks is 4-23 (.174.) On the possibility of replacing Middlebrooks with rookie Xander Bogaerts in Game 5, Farrell offered this: “Havent made a decision on (Thursdays) lineup but given the way the left side of the infield, were struggling a little bit to get production out of that side. So its something thats being considered for sure.” Game 5 Prediction: Im one-for-four picking the correct winner of each game so this has become, effectively, a pointless exercise. To the point, in fact, where I feel I should be apologizing to the team I pick to win. Nonetheless, a commitment was made in Game 1 to make a prediction for each game and Im going to see it through. At the heart of this series is starting pitching and Detroits has been better than Bostons. Sanchez runs up his pitch count striking out the Red Sox and doesnt go beyond seven innings. Lester is equal to the task and this game is decided by the bullpens. So, I pick Boston to win this game 4-3. Erik Swoope Jersey . -- The Windsor Spitfires were left with just one goaltender Tuesday after having their starter walk out on them midway through Game 3 of their Ontario Hockey League playoff matchup with the London Knights. Marcus Johnson Jersey . Bale has had a successful debut season in Spain, and Ancelotti appears ready to reward him with a starting role on Saturday. Ancelotti says "Gareth had some problems at the beginning (of the season) but when he found good physical condition he scored a lot of goals, he had a good impact on the team. http://www.cheapcoltsjerseyssale.com/?tag=nate-hairston-jersey-sale.Brazil midfielder Ricardo Goulart scored the winner in the 50th minute to give the defending champion a four-point advantage in the standings over second-place Sao Paulo, which beat rival Palmeiras 2-0. Zach Pascal Jersey . However, Therrien added that Galchenyuks status for next Wednesdays game against the Detroit Red Wings is questionable. Galchenyuk has been out since Jan. 6 with a broken right hand. Quenton Nelson Jersey .Patterson marked his anniversary by proving his worth — once again.Lou Williams poured in 26 points, and Patterson drained two huge three-pointers late in the fourth quarter, as the Raptors topped the Denver Nuggets 112-107 in overtime Monday.CALGARY -- Canadas cross-country ski team is poised to make Olympic history next month. While Canadian women have stood on the Olympic podium in the sport, a Canadian man never has. Led by Alex Harvey of St-Ferreol-les-Neiges, Que., and Devon Kershaw of Sudbury, Ont., that drought could end on the Psekhako Ridge in Sochi, Russia. The hard goal of Canadas cross-country team is to claim at least two medals in Sochi. Its the men who have the best chance at winning them this time. "I really feel if this team doesnt get two medals Ill feel a bit of disappointment or maybe we did something wrong," Canadian head coach Justin Wadsworth said. "That doesnt mean were incapable of four or five medals. "This is an amazing team. We could do better than two medals. We could blow other teams out of the water if everything comes together." The 11 skiers wholl represent Canada in Sochi were introduced Tuesday at an elementary school with six being present for the announcement. Harvey, Kershaw, Ivan Babikov of Canmore, Alta., Daria Gaiazova of Banff, Alta., and Perianne Jones of Almonte, Ont., were in Europe and en route to a World Cup event in Poland. Chandra Crawford and Jesse Cockney of Canmore, Torontos Lenny Valjas, Graeme Killick of Fort McMurray, Alta., Heidi Widmer of Banff and Emily Nishikawa of Whitehorse will join their teammates in Italy next week for pre-Games training. Cockney, Killick, Widmer and Nishikawa claimed their Olympic berths at last weeks trials in Canmore. They, along with Valjas, will make their Olympic debuts while the rest of the team has previous Games experience. Harvey won two races and finished in the medals four times in this seasons Tour de Ski, which is a gruelling series of 10 races spread over 16 days and three countries. Harvey and Kershaw finished first and second, respectively, in the series opening race. "I feel like our team is in a really good place," Wadsworth said. "We started out slowly this year. The results werent good early and weve built and built. I feel like were in a place where were building still in confidence. We havent peaked out in any way shape or form. "I feel like the whole team is starting to rise and its how we wanted to time it." Wadsworth is married to Canadas Beckie Scott, whose bronze at the 2002 Winter Games was eventually upgraded to gold when two Russians ahead of her were disqualified for doping. Scott was the first North American woman to win an Olympic medal in cross-country skiing. Scott and Sara Renner combined for team sprint silver in 2006 before Scott retired. Canadas cross-country skiers were shut out of the medals at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver and Whistler, B.C., although the men posted seven top-10 finishes. Harvey and Kershaw were fourth in the team sprint and Babikov fifth in the 30-kilometre event. Kershaw was fifth and an aggonizing half a second from the podium in the 50-kilometre event.dddddddddddd Harvey and Kershaw won world championship gold in 2011 in the team sprint. The mens sprints are fertile ground for Canada, but Babikov is also a contender in distance events. Those three and Valjas also give the Canadian squad a strong mens relay team. Medal prospects are thinner on the womens side, although Gaiazova and Jones won World Cup bronze in a team sprint in Sochi last year. Crawford, the 2006 Olympic womens sprint champion, is a wildcard. The womens sprint Feb. 11 will be a skate-ski race again as it was in 2006. The womens sprint in 2010 was a classic race and not Crawfords forte. The 30-year-old is more in her element in skating races than in classic, the striding technique requiring more finesse and less power. But Crawford has struggled first with injuries and then burnout since 2006, to the point where she cut her 2012-13 European racing season short and returned to Canmore. She trained on her own last summer instead of joining the national team at training camps. The 30-year-old isnt shouldering the same weight of expectation she did prior to 2010. "Its so different than Vancouver. Its not our Games. We have to . . . there was more of a have-to feeling," Crawford said. "Just the amount of interest was hard to process as well. "This feels like a real gift and I really appreciate the opportunity." Cockney is the first athlete of Inuit descent on the Olympic cross-country team since sisters Sharon and Shirley Firth raced in their fourth Winter Games in 1984. Cockneys father, Angus, is Inuit. Cockney was born in Yellowknife and learned to ski there before his family moved to Canmore. "Its great to have a strong connection to distinct people," the 26-year-old said. "You kind of feel a little bit more unique and for sure a different experience growing up. "My dad was a cross-country skier at a high level when he was younger and he got my sister and I involved when we were quite young. We had ski trails behind our house when we lived in Yellowknife all the way to the nordic centre. "A lot of dark, cold days in Yellowknife, cross-country skiing in the middle of winter, but that hardened us up and made us stronger." Killick beat decorated Paralympian Brian McKeever out for a spot on the Olympic squad by winning the 30-kilometre event and finishing second to McKeever in the 15k at trials. McKeever was eighth in the 30k. McKeever, from Canmore, is a legally blind skier and winner of 10 Paralympic medals who qualified for Canadas 2010 Olympic team. He was poised to become the first Paralympian to compete in a Winter Olympics, but the teams coaches decided to enter four other skiers in the 50k and not McKeever. The 2014 Olympic cross-country ski competition opens Feb. 8 with the womens 15k race.
